MBD is a leading provider of contracting services on the West Coast and throughout the greater South Island.

MBD’s company directors – Darren Richardson and Ben Haddock have together over 30 years of experience in a huge variety of contracting work. We specialise in major earthworks projects, sea foreshore and river protection, civil construction, road maintenance and construction, subdivisions and driveway and section dig outs.
MBD are also Kiwi Rail’s preferred supplier of specialist Hi-rail and civil equipment on the West Coast with a wide range of specialist Hi-rail plant and equipment used to assist Kiwi Rail with their daily maintenance.

One of our main objectives is to continually improve the company’s performance by developing solutions, implementing fit for purpose strategies, forming valuable long-lasting relationships and working collaboratively with out clients to achieve the best results for all involved – enhancing reputations and proving our ability to deliver excellent project outcomes.

Here at MBD, we take safety very seriously and strive to ensure that we always provide zero harm work sites.
To ensure our work sites are safe and free from harm, we have been independently audited by Telarc and have achieved the internationally recognised Health and Safety Standards certification, “ISO 45001”. This clearly demonstrates MBD is committed to ensuring that all of our worksites are safe for all staff, contractors and public alike.

Our team works extremely hard to ensure our company’s policies and procedures are followed by all staff and subcontractors. We are very proud of our excellent safety record, which we feel has been achieved by our on-going commitment to ensure that all staff are competent and fully trained in the appropriate safety and industry practices relevant to their positions within the company.

MBD understands that our business operates in sensitive environmental locations and take all steps to ensure that our actions do not harm the environment.
We have been independently audited by Telarc and have achieved the internationally recognised Environmental Standards certification “ISO 14001”. This clearly demonstrates our commitment to the environment by reducing harmful effects on the environment and providing evidence of continual improvement of environmental management and confirms that we operate a compliant environmental management system.
We operate our business as a responsible company committed to sound environmental management and with concern for the well-being of the environment. Our goal is to ensure that company facilities and operations are in compliance with all national and local environmental standards and contribute to the sustainability of the natural environment and its resources.

MBD are also actively involved in environmental improvement projects around the West Coast. These include cleaning up along the cycleway trails, restoration planting and assisting the Department of Conservation where possible.
