Technology
MBD has invested in the installation of electronic weighing systems in our excavators, loaders and truck and trailer units. It displays the payload information for the machine operator and the drivers so that they can see the weight of their load on monitors in their cabs. This will reduce the risk of being overloaded beyond their limits to improve safety and avoid any overweight fines.

All truck and trailers are fitted with EROAD. This provides us with full visibility of all vehicles at any one time as well as the ability to monitor and assess our driver’s performance.

Staff
Staff levels continue to expand with currently 40 staff employed by MBD Contracting consisting of qualified foreman, site supervisors, truck drivers, machine operators and labourers. They are supported by an efficient, experienced and highly qualified management and administration team.
The directors of MBD are very proud of our highly experienced, hardworking, extensively trained and motivated staff. All of our staff have very high work standards, show pride in our machinery, plant and premises and have great respect for their fellow workers. They are also proactive with keeping themselves informed of industry and MBD’s safety policies, procedures and protocol.

Quarries
MBD owns and operates a number of rock quarries situated throughout the wider West Coast region as well as operating in quarries in Canterbury. The rock we produce is granite and is especially suitable for river protection.
This work has seen us become respected by many local supervising authorities including the West Coast Regional Council, Environment Canterbury Regional Council and the Department of Conservation.
We are vigilant in ensuring that we comply with all the relevant conditions including permits, licences, consents, Health and Safety regulations and mining plans that need to be adhered to while we are extracting rock and working in the quarry environment.

We have a highly experienced team working in these quarries and are fortunate to have 8 members of staff that hold current A-Grade Quarry Managers Certificates of Competence who are experienced in blasting, loading and placing of the rock.
