Contract: NZTA 63229 Bullock Creek River Training and Rock Spur Works

Description: This contract is for the construction of 10x rock spur works upstream and 4x rock spurs downstream of the SH6 Bullock Creek Bridge on SH6 south of Fox Glacier. The contract also calls for the removal and reconstruction of 3x existing rock spurs upstream and 3x downstream together with river training upstream and downstream of the State Highway bridge.

Contract: GDC 2016-17-35 Lake Brunner Road Pavement Rehabilitation

Client: Grey District Council

Contract Period: March 2017

Description: This contract requires the cut to waste of shoulders and accessways along a length of 11050m of Lake Brunner Road near Rotomanu.  These will be backfilled and compacted prior to the stabilisation of the existing pavement by milling with the addition of 3% Portland cement. The surface will be graded and trimmed and compacted followed by two coat chip sealing and road marking.

 

Contract: GDC 2016-17-22 Jellyman Park Carpark Upgrade

Contract Period: January – February 2017

Description: This contract is to raise the existing rockwall, construction of standard kerb and channel with kerb outlets and carpark area pavement constructed with AP65 sub base and M4 AP40 basecourse followed by Grade3/5 two coat seal.

Contract: C566-2016/2017 Miners

Client: Environment Canterbury

Contract Period: January – May 2017

Description: The contract works comprise of a small amount of reconstruction and shaping of existing portions of stopbank, new stopbank construction and the removal of portions of the existing stopbank system within the West Melton Forest.  It is split into 5 specific sections that must be worked through sequentially so as not to expose any of the area to the flood risk.  There will be some vegetation and stump clearance for the upgrading and new construction of approximately 3,800 metres of stopbank construction including placement, compaction, shaping and gravels, topsoiling, grassing and fencing.
The contract also calls for the construction of a ramp with culverting of approximately 35 metres of water race beneath the stopbank with a floodgate.

Contract: NZTA 63202 Taramakau Road Bridge

Client: New Zealand Transport Agency

Contract Period: November 2016 – July 2018

Description: This contract is for the construction of a realigned section of State Highway 6 approximately 15km south of Greymouth. The section is 1.4km long and includes 2 bridges; (one that spans the Taramakau River and one that spans the Hokitika Industrial rail line). Currently SH6 crosses the Taramakau River using a single rail line bridge.  The new bridge will be approximately 25m downstream from the rail bridge and the new road alignment will remove road and rail conflict through a rail overpass structure within the works.

MBD Contracting has been engaged by Fulton Hogan as a subcontractor to them for this contract. We are involved with the earthworks and embankment construction, utility diversions and pavement construction.

 

Contract: Waiuta and Alexander Mine Remediation

Client: Department of Conservation / EnviroNZ

Contract Period: August 2016 – March 2017

Description: This contract was completed in two stages with work being completed at the Waiuta Prohibition Roasting Plant site first followed by at the Alexander Gold Mine site. 

Waiuta
Construction of an encapsulation pit which was filled with low risk contaminated material. Barrels were filled with highly contaminated material from around the Roasting Plant and surrounding areas and packaged for transport off site. Site restoration involved backfilling all excavations to near original levels with mulloch gravel and washing down of hard stand areas. Care was needed also when working in an historic area with relics being removed prior to clean up and replaced at the conclusion of the remediation work.

Alexander
Upgraded the existing access track to site. Construction of an encapsulation pit and assist with the installation of the pit lining materials. Remediation and decontamination of the Edwards Roaster and the surrounding area with the contaminated material carted and placed in the encapsulation pit. Capping of the encapsulation pit, installation of safety fencing and total site restoration. 

Contract: C2015/E4 Fulton Hogan Rock Lining

Client: Environment Canterbury

Contact Period: April – July 2016

Description: The contract works are for the transport and placement of approximately 22,000 tonnes of rock along with associated earthworks including stockpiling of topsoil and tree and stump removal and reinstatement of tracks and other affected areas near Fulton Hogan’s yard, on the right bank of the Waimakariri River.

Contract: GDC 2015-16-02A Ward Street Culvert Upgrade & Associated Work

Client: Grey District Council

Contract Period: February – April 2016

Description: This contract is to renew the creek culvert on Ward Street, Runanga and associated sewer renewal, creek rock protection, embankment creation, kerb and channel renewal including sumps and driveway entrances as well as full road reinstatement.

Contract: R2015/5 Drilling, Blasting, Stockpiling and De-Rubbling of West Coast Regional Council Quarries

Client: West Coast Regional Council

Contract Period: 3 years from July 2015

Description: This contact is for the operation of four nominated West Coast Regional Council quarries with the specific purpose of producing Armour-Grade protection rock. Work includes drilling and blasting as and when required, stockpiling rock and rubble, managing quarry waste and maintaining available rock stockpiles at each quarry.

Contract: C2014/E6 Kaiapoi River Stopbank Buttressing

Client: Environment Canterbury

Contract Period: June – August 2015

Description: This contract is for the supply and placement of approximately 5,725 m3 of compacted gravels to construct and form a buttress over 975m on the existing Kaiapoi River Stopbank near its confluence with the Waimakariri River. Works also included the installation of a new headwall, extension of a culvert and the extension of an open drain through the new buttress.  The completed buttress is topsoiled and hydroseeded.
