West Coast Network Outcomes Contract (NOC)

Contract Duration:

This contract commenced 1st September 2015 and has an initial 7-year contract period with a reward of an additional 2 years.

Contract Details:

In 2015, MBD was invited by Fulton Hogan to contribute to their bid for the Network Outcomes Contract in the West Coast region. The outcome was favourable and they successfully secured this contract, with MBD engaged as a subcontractor.

The West Coast NOC is New Zealand’s longest and arguably most challenging area, traversing 886km of highway from Haast Pass in the south to Mokihinui in the north. As part of this initiative, MBD plays a crucial role in executing a range of key services including pavement rehabilitation, rock protection, river works and prompt response to emergency situations.
This collaboration aims to enhance the safety and resilience of the West Coast’s transport network while delivering high-quality outcomes for the community.

Contract Achievements:

This collaboration has opened up new opportunities for MBD, significantly boosting its visibility and reputation in the industry. Working alongside a prominent contractor like Fulton Hogan has provided access to large projects and increased tendering opportunities, while allowing the company to showcase its expertise in key services. As a result, the company has established itself as a trusted partner for future contracts. The partnership also fosters knowledge sharing and best practices, further enhancing MBD’s operational capabilities. With the experience and skills gained from these projects, MBD is now better positioned to pursue more ambitious ventures, driving growth and solidifying its place in the market.

A key component of the work under the NOC involves extracting, grading, and stockpiling rock within our quarries in preparation for emergency events. When needed, this rock is carted and placed at various sites to reinstate the West Coast State Highway network. To meet the growing demand for rock production, the business has expanded its quarrying operations by increasing the number of dedicated crews focused on extraction, grading, and stockpiling. We have invested in specialized quarry equipment, including state-of-the-art Sandvik drilling rigs, new Hitachi and Cat excavators, and custom-designed rock buckets for our machines, enabling them to handle the challenging conditions required to extract rock from the quarries.
Over the past 8 years, we have successfully completed numerous large rock work projects under this contract, sourced from our various quarries across the West Coast region. In addition, we have supplied armour-grade rock for numerous other projects during this time, serving a wide range of clients.
