View Hill and Double Hill Quarries

Contract Description:

This 9-year contract is for the management and operations of Environment Canterbury Regional Council’s two quarries – View Hill Quarry at Oxford and Double Hill Quarry at Rakaia. Work comprises of the extraction, sorting, grading, and stockpiling of rock as required at various times throughout the duration of the contract period. This rock is being used for river protection associated with the capital and maintenance works on the Waimakariri, Ashley and Rakaia Rivers.

We also complete maintenance of the quarry which includes maintenance of the existing bunds and compliant bench heights, access tracks and haul roads around the quarry site, managing the overburden, cartage of waste material to the dumpsite, levelling waste, topsoiling dumpsite batters, grassing, and cleaning out the sediment control ponds as required.

Contract Achievement:

MBD has built a strong track record of success and reliability operating both View Hill and Double Hill quarries under various different contracts since 2010 and secured this contract again when it was retendered on the open market in 2024. Our proposal stood out due to our proven ability to deliver high-quality results on time and within budget, while adhering to the highest safety and environmental standards. Our established reputation for reliability, combined with extensive experience in managing complex projects, reinforced our position as the preferred contractor.

Since 2010, we have successfully produced and stockpiled approximately 400,000 tonnes of graded rock. This achievement represents not only our ability to meet the project’s demands but also our commitment to maintaining a steady and efficient supply chain. The production and stockpiling process was carefully managed to ensure consistency in material quality.
